My Day in London…

14 Jan

On Tuesday the 11th I boarded the Megabus to travel over night to London for a day. (I had an interview not just a random visit)

I decided to make the most of it and see some exhibitions, Having missed ‘Chicks on Speed’ when it was in Dundee I decided to hunt it down in London. I was mostly interested in the shoes as I wanted to see them for this terms trend forecasting project. I enjoyed seeing them but felt the way they were presented really distracts from the shoes. The shoes were on a yellow taxi bonnet mounted on wall with a exciting graffiti style painting behind.   I have found pictures of the exhibition at the DCA and it looks like it worked much better. Really disappointed I  Missed it there but glad to of seen the shoes in real life!

I am now interested in the idea of textiles and music working together with my trend forecasting project or future project.

I then went on to the exhibition at the Barbican “Future Beauty : 30 years of Japanese Fashion” This was a pricey but amazing exhibition.

The garments and ideas are set out in a very classy and understated look. No distractions.

Issey Miyake, Rei Kawakubo and Yohji Yamamoto  some of the renouned Japanese fashion designers displayed along side Junya Watanabe, Jun Takahashi, and the ‘new generation of radical designers’ Tao Kurihara,Fumito Ganryu, Matohu, Akira Naka, Mina Perhonen and Mintdesigns.

I was particularly inspired by Rei Kawakubo. She has such great confidence and visions. She talks about doing what she has designed and sticking to it rather that taking trends and outside influences in to account. She also says that while female clothes have to be displayed by profesional models as female fashion is about the most interesting new shapes which are best displayed on professionals, she treats male fashion completely differently. She looks at choosing a male in an ordinary job and designing to his personality, therefore using unprofessionals to display her work.

these all over patterns merge in to the walpaper behind…

A definite Must see if you down in london and a great resource to refer back to, and research more!
